About this ten frames
Drawn as vector geometry at real-world dimensions, so it prints at exactly the size shown on A4, A5, A3, US Letter, US Legal. Print at 100% rather than “fit to page” — that setting rescales the sheet and the measurements stop being the measurements.

Frequently asked questions
What is a ten frame used for?+
Building number sense in early primary. Counters placed in the cells let a child see seven as five and two more, or as three short of ten, without counting one at a time. That habit — recognising a quantity by its shape rather than by counting — is what the frame is training, and it is the foundation for bridging through ten later on.
When should I use five, ten or double frames?+
Five frames for children still working within five, where a ten frame is mostly empty and distracting. Ten frames are the standard tool for numbers to ten. Double frames give two tens stacked, for teen numbers and work up to twenty — the line between the two tens is drawn heavier because that break is the thing being taught.
Why are the cells always square?+
Because the frame only works if a counter covers one cell. A stretched cell quietly teaches area instead of number, and a child placing a round counter in a rectangle gets a different visual answer than the one intended. Cell size is taken from whichever dimension is tighter and the leftover space becomes margin.
