39 of our 45 tools run in your browser, so they cost us nothing to serve and they're free forever, with no account. The video tools mostly do too — trimming and joining MP4s up to 400 MB happens in your tab, free and without an account, because it copies data rather than re-encoding it.
What you pay for is the work a tab genuinely can't do: files too big to hold in browser memory, re-encoding that would take a browser an hour, Ghostscript, and rebuilding a PDF into an editable document. Those run on servers we rent by the second.

What a video costs, once it leaves your tab
Nothing in this table applies until a file is too big for your browser to handle. Under the free ceiling in the last column the job runs in your tab, uploads nothing and costs no credits — which is most of them. Past it, credits are charged on the size of what you upload, because that is what actually drives the processing time and the bandwidth. You see the cost before a job runs, and a job that fails is refunded.

Why isn't everything free?
Because we'd rather charge for the one thing that costs us money than quietly degrade the things that don't. Merging a PDF happens on your machine — it would be dishonest to put a subscription in front of it. Transcoding a video happens on a server we rent by the second, and pretending otherwise would mean either watermarks, queues or a size cap. We'd rather just say what it costs.
