Drawn as vector geometry at real-world dimensions, so it prints at exactly the size shown on A4, A5, A3, US Letter, US Legal. Print at 100% rather than “fit to page” — that setting rescales the sheet and the measurements stop being the measurements.

Frequently asked questions

What square size should I pick?+

5mm is the default and the standard ruling in metric exercise books, so it is the right answer unless something told you otherwise. US quarter-inch paper is 6.35mm; the size steps in half-millimetres, so the nearest you can set is 6.5mm — close enough to write on, not close enough to overlay on an existing sheet.

What does the heavier line every n squares do?+

It darkens every nth grid line so you can count squares at a glance instead of tracking them one by one. Five is the usual convention and the default. Set it to 0 for a completely uniform grid with no emphasis.

Which line darkness should I use?+

Light, the default, is right for pencil work and for anything you plan to scan — the grid stays out of the way of what you write. Choose dark if the sheet is going through a photocopier, which tends to drop the faintest lines entirely.
