Frequently asked questions
I got nothing back — why?+
The PDF is probably a scan, meaning it holds images of text rather than text. Use the OCR tool, which reads the letters out of the image.
Does it keep the formatting?+
No. You get plain text with line and paragraph breaks preserved as well as the PDF records them. Columns and tables may interleave.
What is the difference between this and the OCR tool?+
This reads the text layer the PDF already contains, which is instant and exact. OCR looks at the pixels and recognises the letters, which is what you need when the page is a scan or a photograph with no text layer to read.
Can I extract just a few pages?+
This returns the whole document. To narrow it first, pull out the range you want with the PDF Splitter and run that through here.
